Dokra is among the oldest traditional techniques of metal casting in India from pre-historic period. The process of making Dokra is very interesting. It is non-ferrous metal casting using the lost-wax casting method. One of the earliest known examples of Dokra art is the dancing girl of Mohenjo-daro. Generally no chemical is used in the whole process and the process is totally earthen. 

The Dokra artisans of West Midnapore and Bankura districts of West Bengal are famous for their innovative Dokra crafts.
